We’re told that he was temporarily with families for a little while when he was still a puppy, but circumstances there weren’t stable enough, and unfortunately, he wound up without a home. When Vido was about three years old, a gentleman who lived in Iran felt that the pup would have a chance at a better life with his son, who had moved to America a few years earlier.

The son actually grew quite fond of the dog and kept Vido as his closest companion for 3 1/2 years. But things, as they have a habit of doing, changed. The young man got married to a woman who didn’t share his fondness for dogs. Vido was no longer allowed in the house when the gentleman wasn’t home, and he started feeling neglected. Nine months after the wedding, a daughter was born, and the wife then insisted that Vido should no longer be a part of the household. The young man resisted for almost 9 months, but eventually his wife threatened to dump the dog off at the pound if the gentleman didn’t get rid of Vido. For the sake of Vido’s well-being, he was surrendered to our rescue. Despite our best efforts, and even though there were two times that he temporarily went to a home that we had hoped would be permanent, he never quite found his permanent household.

Vido absolutely loves people and has never had a problem with a single person. He’s a little less fond of other dogs (I don’t think that he thinks of himself as one), and although he tolerates them, he would much rather be an only dog. Somewhere along the line, before he got to us, he had developed a thyroid problem and had grown a little too large, but he’s now on thyroid medication, which he happily takes, is losing weight, and has grown a healthy, thick, luxurious coat of fur. He likes to go on walks, although he does have to stop and sniff everything every few feet along the way, and loves to sit by his person.
Here’s a dog well worth knowing and would be a fine companion for anyone who would like to have one dog.
